Haitian Promise
In 2000, twelve parishioners from Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish (then Saint Elizabeth Seton) traveled to Haiti to respond to the U.S. Catholic Bishop's call to "reach beyond our borders."
Working with the Dioceses of Norwich, the community established a “twinning” relationship with our sisters and brother at Saint Anne Parish in Saintard, Haiti.
Over the years our connection has included mutual prayer support, immersion trips to Saintard and visits to Connecticut from the priest pastors at Saint Anne’s.
We pledge monthly financial support for the Haitian parish and school and, thanks to a generous bequest, we were able to help complete construction on the Saint Anne parish school.
That building now serves more than 500 K-12 students. In 2017 we helped rebuild the community's fishing boats lost during a hurricane. Many hands have made our journey bright.
Fundraisers have included Hoof it for Haiti, a 5K Run/Walk, concerts, faith formation collections of school supplies, vacation bible school and parish sewing groups donating handmade items.
In July, we mark St. Anne's feast day with a special collection.
