Dear Parishioners and Friends of Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish,
Greetings and blessings!
We have all seen the pictures and been bedazzled by the coronations of Royalty and the ancient trappings of monarchy. At the core of most coronation ceremonies is a simple action which has roots in the Old Testament, in King David’s time. The monarch is anointed with holy oil: head, heart, and hands. And by that symbolic act he or she is bonded to their people for the rest of their days, as their protector and guide.
It seems to me it was the ideal of a monarch’s unbreakable bond to their people that led Jesus to call himself a king, for his commitment to us is total and irrevocable. It has no escape clause, as his crucifixion revealed so clearly.
In giving us his wholehearted promise Jesus also gave us a model for the whole of our lives: standing by one another steadfastly, even when the journey is rough and long.
Our instinct is to flee inconvenience, discomfort, or pain. But as we learn over a lifetime that will usually leave us isolated and empty handed. It is only faith-filled love, on the good days and the bad, that will bring us to the rich and full life that we all seek, that is our God given destiny.
And so, as we end one liturgical year, this weekend with the Feast of Christ the King, and the begin a new year with Advent...let us recommit ourselves to walk more dearly with our neighbor, as faithfully as Jesus walks with us individually and as a faith/parish community. Let us bring our absolute best—head, heart, and hands—to every moment and breath. And always persist in that truth and way of life. And when we look back one day on our journey, our hearts and minds will tell us that we have made the right choice.
Peace and Blessings,
Fr. George Couturier
Pastor

Sweet Feet Repeat
Last year our Confirmation classes collected candy and new socks as part of their Sweet Feet Project. They filled men, women and children’s socks with candy and delivered them to numerous agencies as a special gift for Christmas. The project was huge success, and we would like to “repeat” it again this year but need lots of donated candy and socks. From now until the beginning of December, drop new socks and candy in the boxes labeled Sweet Feet Project located in the foyers of both churches. Thank you for making Christmas a little “sweeter” for others.

Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center
Our retreat theme, In the Spirit of Trust, will explore the notion of trust and how it is gained, as well as lost. We will share our personal faith experiences of trusting in God’s providence and help one another to build a foundation for lasting trust in the one who created us and loves us. And in the process, we hope to become more trustworthy Christian people on the journey of faith, bringing about a world of justice and peace as members of the Body of Christ. To register visit holyfamilyretreat.org, call us at 860.760.9705 or find the registration forms in the back of the church. Cost is $325. Please join the women of our parish on this inspiring retreat!
