Daly November Notes

Dear Friends,

“The kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise.” Matthew 25:1-4

My friends,

Jesus tells this parable to the disciples for a simple reason. They expected that He would bring about the Kingdom of God in their lifetime.

But not in the way they expected. It would not be by military force and political strength, but through His cross and resurrection. It would not come into its fullness until the end of the world when Jesus comes in glory.

Knowing the wait would be long, Jesus worried for His followers. He knew how easily we get distracted. He knew that the cares of this world can make us spiritually drowsy, or worse, cause us to doubt His return entirely.

Isn’t that where we find ourselves today? Built-in comforts and secure lives can easily numb our spiritual hunger. The danger isn’t just forgetting extra oil for our lamps—it is that our lamps may have run dry without us even noticing.

Let us wake from our slumber, trim our lamps, and ask Jesus to refill us daily through prayer, Scripture, and the Sacraments. When we live with joyful expectancy, our lives naturally reflect God’s light to a world in need.

A couple of questions to reflect on this week:

  • In what areas of my life has modern comfort made me spiritually drowsy or complacent?
  • What practical steps can I take today to “refill my lamp” and deepen my personal relationship with Christ?

Our parish community extends our warmest congratulations and blessings to the forty- seven young people of our parish who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this coming Saturday, November 7 at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford. We are incredibly proud of their commitment to their faith. Please keep these young men and women in your prayers as they continue their spiritual journey, that they may boldly live out the Gospel and use their gifts to serve Christ and our community.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Shawn

Haiti Concert a Smashing Success

Last Sunday Saint James Church was standing room only for “From Broadway to the Met!” Our Music Ministry and Children’s Choir were outstanding, and soloists Rochelle Bard, Nicole Bard Lian, and Daniel Juarez were simply divine. The generosity shown for our Haiti Ministry, “Our Haitian Promise,” was beyond imagining. Thank you to our incredible Music Ministry and guest singers! Thank you to everyone who came, sang, gave, and believed. Enjoy a few photos below, with the full gallery coming soon!

Join Us In Praying For Our Parish Youth

Our Faith Formation classes began in September and will run through April. We pray that our students in pre-kindergarten through Grade 9 have a year where their faith and relationship with God grow. Our parishioners have been so generous to our faith formation classes and outreach programs. Our youth face many challenges in their day to day life. They could be carrying stress in their personal life, navigating friendships, holding themselves to high expectations in academics and sports, caring about family, and more. We have asked each of our students to write intentions on how we, as a parish, could pray for them throughout the year. Prayer intention cards will be placed in the foyers at the end of each mass on the weekend of November 14-15, 2026. Please consider taking a card and holding that child in prayer throughout the year. Our students really poured their hearts into how we can best pray for them and are appreciative to have the support of a prayer team. Thank you!

Thanksgiving Food Baskets &

Grocery Store Gift Certificates

Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish will be collecting Thanksgiving food baskets for families in our community on the weekend of November 21-22, 2026, so that they can be delivered before Thanksgiving. Rocky Hill Human Services needs baskets for families of four to six people.

If you would like to donate a basket, please bring it (any container is fine, as long as it looks nice) to the Rectory garage at Saint Elizabeth Seton or Fr. Shea Hall at Saint James on Saturday afternoon, November 21, or Sunday morning, November 22. A list of suggested items is available here to help with your shopping. Please do not include perishable foods. Families will receive gift certificates to purchase their turkey and fresh items.

We will also be collecting grocery store gift certificates that Rocky Hill Human Services will add to the baskets when they are distributed. Please bring gift certificates to Mass on November 21-22 and place them in the collection basket, or mail or drop them off at the church office so they arrive before the weekend.
