Dear Friends,
I hope you are all enjoying a peaceful and refreshing summer. I will be away August 17-23. There will be no weekday Mass or Monday confessions this week. On the weekend of August 22-23, Father Anthony Federico, our Director of Vocations, will celebrate and preach at all Masses.
Since the Archdiocese has been praying the Prayer for Priestly Vocations at the end of every Mass, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of men discerning a vocation to the priesthood.
This surge in vocations is no coincidence—it is a direct response to the Prayer for Priestly Vocations, a powerful reminder that the call to the priesthood begins with the Lord’s invitation. Our Archdiocese is truly blessed with the many faith-filled seminarians who are currently discerning a vocation to the priesthood. This is both a blessing and a challenge with the need to educate, nurture and form our future priests. Prayer and financial support are crucial for these seminarians and the future of the Church.
The average cost of one year of seminary formation is $65,000. When Archbishop Coyne visited us last year, he shared with us that each parish will be asked to contribute $10,000 toward our Seminary Formation Program. As a show of our support, we will have a special collection on the weekend of August 22-23. Please make your check out to Saint Josephine Bakhita Parish.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Shawn
